T.H.E.Seniors orientation visit was meaningful yesterday! =)
I woke up earlier than usual, because I didn't want to be late meeting the new volunteers. Not too nice to leave a bad impression right? Haha... It was kind of confusing as there was this another group of people meeting at the MRT control station as well. Nevertheless, I still managed to fetch all the freshmen on my list. However, HTHT was sick so she didn't join us in the end! Take care, girl!
All the new volunteers were very nice! I thought 3 of them, Vanessa, Clarice & Boon Peng, are friends because they came together & got along well! In fact, they only know one another at the MRT control station trying to find me. They remind me of Peijie, Yuyan & me. Everyone mistook us as very close friends on our first few visits as well. (I miss Yuyan! She has since graduated & work as a nurse, so she wouldn't have time to come T.H.E.Seniors anytime soon. =( ) Anyway! Boon Peng is from Computing too! So cool to know a junior coming to T.H.E.Seniors! =D
We were split into 3 groups - Hokkien, Cantonese & English/Chinese. I was supposed to lead the Hokkien group to Mdm Ho's house. Thank goodness Chen Hua was there. Haha... Everyone asked if he would be there, because he would chat with the elderly most, whereas the rest of us speak in Hokkien in bits & pieces. We helped to clean Mdm Ho's house. She has 2 carpets, which Boon Peng & I brought them out to the stairs to un-dust them. They were super dusty!!! We took a long time trying to fling the carpets against the railing of the stairs & talking about Computing at the same time. Mdm Ho actually cooked Hokkien mee & fried chicken for us! How nice! I didn't eat though because I felt quite full.
After that, we went to visit Mdm Tan. I was very happy because I missed Mdm Tan. It was really very long since I last visited her! Serious. Apparently, her roommate passed away a month or so ago. It was quite sad to hear that you know. Her roommate was much younger than her, and the last time I saw her, she was very healthy, with no illness at all. Although her roommate was anti-social, but she was still polite whenever we visited Mdm Tan. When we sat down, Mdm Tan told us about how her roommate's son was supposed to come collect the rest of her belongings & go HDB report her passing away. She also complained to us about how her roommate used to be very "gor-ta" & pick on little details. However, I can still feel that Mdm Tan felt sad about her roommate. Afterall, they lived together for 5, 6 years.
We had our debrief & introduction session after everyone gathered outside the activity centre. I'm very happy to know that the 5 girls who came are interested to join us for future visits! Some people just join us for orientation visits & disappear after that. I really hope they will stay & not disappear towards the end of the year. I am hopeful! There is a second batch of people coming next week for orentation visit session 2! There would be much more people! However, it is not the number of people that come for orientation visits that matter. It is the people who wish to come back for future visits which is important to me. =D
